A virtual private network (VPN) is a technology that is designed to keep your computer safe. VPN’s do a great job of keeping you protected online behind the scenes and without you even knowing it by scrambling data transferred between your computer and the VPN server so that no one else can read it.

So what exactly is a VPN protecting you from? A “Man in the Middle” - While on unsecured WiFi, VPN’s offer while on protection from hackers attempts to access your information that is en route “Evil Twin” hot spots - These are fake hot spots set up by hackers as “free Wifi” in an attempt to access your private information “Wifi Packet Sniffers” - A way to intercept the 'radio waves' of your computer, gaining access to your info.

There are plenty of other useful ways a VPN can offer protection, however, it should be considered one tool in a whole repertoire of safety precautions while working from anywhere. This isn’t to overwhelm you, though. Always remember, ACS can help you stay secure no matter where you login!
