The Rise of YouTube

YouTube has grown to be the Internet’s most popular video sharing sites. It’s also turned out to be an excellent resource for talented entertainers who have something worthwhile to share with the world. Several Youtubers have gained great financial benefit from monetize their sites. Here is a list of richest Youtubers in 2019:

  • Logan Paul – $14.5 million.
  • PewDiePie – $15.5 million.
  • Jacksepticeye – $16 million.
  • VanossGaming – $17 million.
  • Markiplier – $17.5 million.
  • Jeffree Star – $18 million.
  • DanTDM – $18.5 million

When Willie Sutton was asked why he robbed banks his simple reply was “Because that's where the money is.” This is the same from today's cybercriminals. According a recent article by Forbes several High-profile Youtubers were targeted by cybercriminals last weekend. The information came from Catalin Cimpanu, a ZDNet Reporter, who spoke with a member of an internet forum with a history of trading access to hacked accounts.

According to the investigations many accounts belonging to the well-known YouTubers within the car community appear to have been hijacked. The investigation by Cimpanu points clearly towards a coordinated phishing campaign. Having spoken to a member of an internet forum where online account hijackers are known to chat, Cimpanu was able to determine that this was likely a highly targeted, or "spear phishing," campaign rather than a spray and pray operation. The forum member told ZDNet that someone had got hold of a "real nice database," and were "getting a bang for their buck," as a result.

Unfortunately, YouTube starts are not the only people that are targeted by cybercriminals. In fact, in many cases, cybercriminals may be more likely to target you. The reason, often times you will not have the same type of security measures in place that YouTubes stars may have on their profiles. Many times, that is true,. So, for cybercriminals, you are a much easier target.
